Visit North Korea from Beijing for the Pyongyang Marathon, one of the most unique marathon races around.
Taking part in the marathon, you’ll be competing alongside local Korean marathon runners, and celebrating with them as you cross the finish line together. Running through the city is one of the best ways to explore the beautiful and unique capital, Pyongyang.
For the more adventurous traveler, this 6.5-night tour not only takes you around Pyongyang city, but also gets you to the lively city of Pyongsong, but also south to Sariwon where you will visit a local farm to learn about agriculture in North Korea. You’ll then head further south down to Kaesong and the DMZ area.
This tour will have you in Pyongyang on April 15 for one of the country’s biggest celebrations – the Day of the Sun, or the birthday of eternal President Kim Il Sung. Join in with the locals as they celebrate and enjoy their day off!
- Meet your tour guide and fellow travelers at Shanghai Pudong Airport for a pre-tour briefing and check-in (Air Koryo check-in desk in Terminal 1 @ 21:00) for your late night flight to Pyongyang. This briefing will last approximately one hour and is designed so that you will get the most out of your tour. It will cover travel etiquette, safety, the marathon, and practicalities for travel in the DPRK.
We arrange your North Korean visa as part of your tour package [+50 EUR]. However, given the tour starts and finishes in China you may also need to arrange a Chinese visa for your trip obtained at a Chinese diplomatic mission abroad. We recommend obtaining at least a double-entry Chinese visa for your trip.
Over 50 nationalities can obtain a visa-waiver for up to 144 hours when in transit through Shanghai using direct international flights. Most other nationalities can transit for up to 24 hours.
Please be sure to check your visa status for travel through China while planning your trip. We are unable to arrange Chinese visas, but can provide documentation in support of visa applications upon payment of a tour deposit.
Please note that the itinerary may differ slightly to what is above but your tour leader will do their best to ensure that as much is covered as possible and will also add in extras when there is time such as a visit to a local bar or a funfair.
